Day 6: HOLLYWOOD, JE T'AIME

Hollywood, Je T'aime, with Chad Allen leading a fabulous supporting cast, is charming and almost hopelessly romantic in a way. Sometimes, running away from love is not really an option.

  1. I liked this one. It moved very quickly near the beginning and end, but had some nice slow parts in the middle. I loved how the movie hopped back and forth into dreams at times to both explain the back story, and weave in current plot points.

One thing most American audiences won't like about it is the ending, since it's not the typical "happy ending". That said, I personally liked the ending, having come to expect open plot points and quick endings in French cinema. :)

  2. I guess they can't all be winners. Though we WERE warned, as this was a French film. French guy gets dumped, is depressed in Paris. So he goes to California, and realizes he's just as depressed in California. So he goes back to Paris.

    Typical French movie.

  3. There were a few comments about the audio quality. Not sure that this was an issue with the format that we used. I'm thinking now that it was just the sound engineering of the movie? Someone mentioned that the music was loud during a dialogue. So I'm not sure what to say.

    (on a HANNAH FREE ballot)
Since there is no time after the movie to write on this, I'll review last night's movie now: "Hollywood Je T'aime" was pretty lame. Chad Allen's acting was the only interesting part. I expect "Hannah Free" to be pretty good, but I'll tell you this weekend.

Not really that enjoyable. Too much pot and sadness. The film had potential, but ...

Sweet story - black & White "Oz" effect was interesting. But you could not HEAR dialogue!

The end was very weak, but the rest of the film was good. All the supporting actors were actually more engaging than the lead. He didn't bring much to his character.

Strangely charming and captivating. Jerome's encounter with America -- marginalized individuals welcome him.

Good but a slightly awkward movie that could not get out of its own way.

Very touching portrayal of the outsiders as the most human and caring, accepting people.

I liked the color changes between black & white and bright colors (America). Many tilmes very artistic -- in cab with green and red on plexy glass.

Why would he choose France over the US? Lame.

Sometimes people are in our lives for a short time & that is all it is. The movie made that point well.

Generally slow - several times words were unintelligible because was too loud - but likeable characters.

There was a great message about experiencing new things to grow as a person and about meeting new people and their contribution to one's growth.
