Program 20: Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives

The screams and laughter coming from the Dryden tonight could probably have been heard all the way to the Little Theatre, which can only mean that our late-night screening of the controversial Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives was a HUGE success! Everyone really seemed to love the film, and the Q&A with Writer/Director Israel Luna was just an added bonus.

How did everyone enjoy their first weekend of ImageOut 2010?

  1. For all the controversy, this film was actually pretty tame. Frozen Flower had more violence.

I have to say, the trans gentleman in the front row said it best when he noted how outright funny and campy the movie was, and how empowering it was to cheer with the audience as the good "guys" fought back.

I really think the trans community that avoided/protested this film missed out. It was a very empowering movie, filled with camp, comedy, and spunk.

I can't thank the ImageOut team enough for bringing this to our community, so that we could see it and judge for ourselves. I look forward to a documentary about censorship around this film, and how poorly some actors in our community have behaved based on it. (I'm look at you GLAAD.)

  2. Never judge a movie by what others say about it, especially when they NEVER WATCHED IT! Now, with that said, you can take my review with a grain of salt, but I thought it was a fantastic movie. While some said that it was, "too graphic" and "made light of a serious matter," what it really did was show how some killer transgender women (trannies) can kick some serious ass! Why should we watch another documentary about how weak the transgender / gay community is? While killing and torture are not ideas I condone, it's nice to see some justice served.

This movie is so over the top, you'll just keep laughing through most of it. Not only do the girls have fantastic names, but their one liners are priceless. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a stiletto heal shoved into a degenerate's eye? I know I did!

  3. I loved this film! I am very glad ImageOut had the courage to bring this film to us. And people, like anything in life, need to see it before judging it.
It was campy, funny, and yes there was violence. It was also empowering not just for the characters but the audience as well.

I liked the style of the film. The visual grainy quality was perfect for the scenes it was used. The one-liners were hilarious! You will never think of "flash cards" in the same way!

Again, I am thankful we got to see it. To be able to judge it for actual artistic merit instead of not being allowed to see it would have been a shame.

  4. I have to say, this is the most FUN screening I have seen at ImageOut! The audience was fully engaged and I love that they were very vocal and loud with their reactions. And yet you could still feel the tension in the bashing scenes. I'm so happy that Rochester embraced this movie. You guys, rock! Here are some of your comments.

Rating this one good and only because I'm not a gore fan. GLAD (no pun intended) ImageOut took the "risk" and proud it was here in Roc. Thanks, Programming Team!

Quentin Tarantino would be proud -- fun, entertaining, thought-provoking. Thanks for including this selection in the Festival. Michael Gamilla is wonderful -- funny, sincere, compassionate.

    Michael's response:
Awwww. That was sweet. Thanks. =)

Excellent movie. It had the dramatic violent scenes against the transwomen which makes you feel for them and feel anger towards the transgressors. Then to see the transwomen fight back and defeat the criminals gives a rewarding feeling.

The movie also had the comedy, fast-moving/paced film and never a dull, boring moment. Plus the camaraderie the girls had was an excellent touch!!!

Satire camp and special effects were great. I can see where some people would be offended but they obviously have no sense of humor.

When does this come out on DVD? Because I want it!

This was one of the BEST horror films I've seen, and it was still realistic enough to relate to current events, andto think about what is going on in our world / country / community.

And as for the controversy over the film, if you are not offending someone, you're not doing it right!
