We begin our 10-days of celluloid fabulosity with
The Four-Faced Liar, This
stellar "comedy about drama" features
four very promising young actors who will all be in attendance at both the 6:30pm screening at the Little Theater and the
opening-night party at nearby Eros Restaurant. We can't wait to get this party started!
Ticket pre-sales have ended. There will be a limited number of tickets for this program available at the Little Theater Box Ofiice the evening of the show, but get there early! Every opening-night in recent memory has been a sell-out!
This was a wonderful film to kick-off the festival! Funny and thought-provoking, with well-written characters.
ReplyDeleteHaving the four primary actors present for a Q&A was wonderful, especially since they were so lively and engaging.
Kudos to Michael and the Programming Comittee!
Glad you enjoyed it Jim. Of course I had already seen the film as the committee was making selections, but it was even more enjoyable to see it in a packed house, and with the amazing stars in attendance!
ReplyDeleteI also liked the movie. A great way to start the festival. I loved the constant references to Wuthering Heights as well (both blatant and subtle).
ReplyDeleteThat was a great opener! I kind of hoped that the 2 guys would fall in love as well, but movies don't always go exactly the way I want them to! :)
ReplyDeleteMost people really enjoyed this film and there was a lot of appreciation for having the principal cast at the screening. I didn't realize that there was a "sound" issue. Not sure now if it's the tape or the theater. Here are some of your comments.

ReplyDeleteGood but often difficult to understand the dialogue.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteGood. Colorful, sexy, fun, but not much content.
Talk back too long.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteOUTSTANDING!
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteThe sound made it difficult to hear all the words -- which was a distraction.
It was very enjoyable listening to the actors talk about their experiences making the film.

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed Molly tremendously! Kudos to these young people for their tenacity.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteAfter-school special-ish. Glad it didn't wrap up everything in a pretty bow. Some good performances.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteAdorable, funny, transitions between scenes and pannings of street view done well. Enjoyed the break of "slice of life" stuff too. Music choices fit as well.

From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteRelationships are so complicated!
From the ballots:
ReplyDeletePlayful and poignant. It kept me guessing throughout the film how it might end!
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteThis was ... interesting. I think it shows the fluidity of sexuality. Sometimes you just can't help who you fall in love with. Man, those bisexuals really have it hard sometimes.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteBeautiful screen work.
From the ballots:

Kijkt lekker weg.

From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteGreat movie. Funny, strong all way. Also I really liked how the makers/actors came up stage! In Holland, I never experienced it. Winner!
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteActors who use facial expressions and chemistry more than dialogue -- haven't seen that in a long time! Loved it.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteFun film to start the Festival. A bit of an After School Special. Very fun that you were able to get the four actors and writer to come and talk with us.

(Sound was muffled somewhat.)

From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteVery strong script. Good writing & avoided cliches! Love the toothbrush bit.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a bit better if it played with Wuthering Heights more. Maybe a Kat & Heather.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteAudience choice.
Great film!
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteI liked how this avoided cliches.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteFilm values very high. Great framed shots.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteI liked the story and the acting; however, I think the pacing was slow at times.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteHard to follow who was who -- 2 guys looked the same also.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteSome of the delivery style made some lines hard to understand. Some great recurring motifs -- the toothbrushing was worth it! Great seeing how close the cast is.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteExcellent. It would have been as good without smoking. Where was the lighting?
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteGreat writing for the women.
Great supportive acting from males.
Could easily become a sitcom as the characters evolve. In the play, hopefully you can enlarge the male roles.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteWonderful opening film. It was very special to have the actors live to do the Q&A.
From the ballots:
ReplyDeleteGreat! And loved seeing bisexuality being explored in a movie at our festival. Very fun.
