Edith Windsor Challenges DOMA!

Nary a dry eye left the theater after ImageOut's packed screening of Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement back in 2009. The touching documentary made it easy to love these women who had been together for more than 40 years, and who were finally married in a long-anticipated ceremony in Canada at the end of the film.

But their story did not end when the cameras were turned off.

As reported at the end of the film, Thea passed away after a long illness. The loving pair were legally prepared with wills, but the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) slapped Edie with a huge estate tax bill. True to her nature, Edie is fighting DOMA all the way to the supreme court and the NY attorney General has joined in her case.
