WENDY AND LUCY at the Dryden

I don't know about you folks but I'm pretty excited about the super indie film WENDY AND LUCY coming to the Dryden this weekend with not 1 but 10 screenings! I'm liking that the Dryden has been bringing current movies to our community that we would otherwise wait eagerly on video. I know the film does not have GLBT content but as you know, I love movies in general anyway. This one in particular boasts a smashing performance from Michelle Williams who actually won several critics' awards for her role here. Check out the Dryden Calendar for its screening schedule. Oh and it's only 80 minutes long ... a rarity these days. In Berlin, most of the films I watched were 2 hours long, and I even sat through a 3-hour Mexican experimental film (ouch!) and a 4-hour Japanese drama with lesbian-ish tendencies. Okay I lied. I got so hungry I walked out of the Japanese movie. But I can't imagine the ImageOut audiences enjoying that film anyway. And in these times of hardships, I can't imagine renting two theater timeslots for one movie. But I digress. Hope you'll catch WENDY AND LUCY at the Dryden this weekend. And let me know what you think.

P.S. Also noticed that the Dryden is bringing back the homoerotic teen vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (see what I thought of the movie here) for another engagement on March 20, Friday. Yet another chance for those people who missed it the first time around. I think I might even see it again myself!

READY? OK! coming to DVD

One of the most fun and uplifting films in our ImageOut 2008 lineup is READY? OK! It will be available on DVD on April 14. If you plan on getting a copy, consider purchasing it from Wolfe and help ImageOut along the way. The festival gets a percentage from all DVD sales using the link above. While there, check out their other available DVDs.

Back from Berlin!

Hi Everyone,

I have been away for more than two weeks and it's good to be back! I was at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival and the 2009 European Film Market shopping for films for another fabulous ImageOut fest. Will be posting more on that later.

I flew in last night during the Oscar Awards. For a film buff, it was painful to be in a plane sitting on the JFK tarmac while the biggest film event is going on. I managed to catch the last hour and a half of the ceremonies and it looked like a very entertaining effort from the producers this year. So it was a SLUMDOG show. I know this was expected but must the show turn the Best Song Award production into another pimping of the film? Guess I still couldn't get past how both the theme songs from THE WRESTLER and GRAN TORINO missed being nominated in this category.

So what are your Oscar thoughts?
