Day 9: EDIE & THEA: A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT

From the filmmakers that brought us The Brandon Teena Story comes this sweet, tender, heartbreaking film about finding one's soul mate and life partner, and going through life's challenges no matter what. Though it's easy to say that the wonderful couple, Edie and Thea, could easily be the faces for the campaign for gay marriage, it is their touching love story and their inspiring relationship, politics aside, that truly make this film one of my favorite documentaries of the year.

NOTE: Three short films were screened in this program: Make A Mate, I've Got U, and Second Guessing Grandma.

Hmmm, nobody else has been posting on this blog lately...

Anyway, I am very happy that they were able to get married. A beautiful love story.

And I like to learn about lgbt history. Like, people were doing "that" (parades, etc.) in 1970? Wow!

Talk about tears! I sure had 'em at the end of this one! What a beautiful film about a beautiful couple. I enjoyed it immensely.

C'mon people... let the festival know what you thought about some of these movies. This blog is a nice opportunity to express your thoughts.

This was fantastic, it transcended sexual orientation really but I was glad to see a lesbian (or if it was men gay) couple madly in love with each other until death did them part. Great pick and pic!

I loved the shorts before it too, I would love to own the video of the song that women sang.

I too liked this movie, though about 2/3 of the way through it hit a part that I'd already seen on TV earlier. (Yes, it aired on Logo within the past month or so I believe.)

It's still a great story, and one that needs to be told and seen by as many people as possible. While long term committed relationships aren't uncommon in the LGBT community, they're often not spoken about, since those that have been together for a long time tend to also be of the older generations where sexuality was not something to be discussed.

I'm just happy to see another story of loving committed couples sharing their lives together, despite societies attempts to condemn and/or separate them. The saddest part of the movie for me was not the inevitability of death, but rather that they had to go to another country to "officially" be recognized as a couple. Most 4 year olds would recognize that two people loving and living together for half as long as they had as a married couple. The fact that our government can't see as clearly as a child is painful and depressing.

Rave reviews from the ballots. Almost everyone rated the film excellent except for a handful. I wonder if EDIE & THEA will win the Audience Award.

I loved the photos and editing and storytelling of Edie & Thea. BUT the sound was mushy and distracting.

Too much focus on disability rather than love affair.

FANTASTIC - as a gay man, I often times lose hope in finding a partner, but they showed/proved that I need to keep hope living.

Ballot comment A.L.:
Edie & Thea - a delightful choice and a nice gesture toward the large absences of older gay men.

Just great! The shorts were perfect for EDIE & THEA. Michael was right. This was the best. What a wonderful couple. Thea brought me tears when she said "now I can die." There were many profound statements. I could go on, but it just was a beautiful love story.
