Program 31: Just Curious

You've loved our women's shorts and you've loved our "dirty" shorts, now it's time for the men to have their turn. Just Curious is a collection of seven short films, each making the case that sometimes it's a good idea to shake things up and try something new.

Men, men, men, men manly men, men
Ah a-a aaa [men!]

Sorry, I couldn't resist ;)

Anyway, there weren't any bad ones but I think some were better than others. I really enjoyed the go go reject and the professor (the brazilian short) and gayby.

Now, the programmers do like the films they present, right? It's just that at the end of this program, I went up to Michael and said "yeah, Gayby was good" but he sort of gave me that look like "really, you enjoyed it?" Well, that's what I thought but I don't always read people well...one of my greatest weaknesses....So....I don't know. Anyways.........................................................

What I THINK it was is that Michael is so sleep deprived and therefore he's in a fog half the time. Michael honey get some sleep so you can look your best for closing night. I can't wait to see what outfit you'll wear this year! :)

@Stefan - You definitely read me wrong. GAYBY is definitely in my top 5 short films this year. Funny and endearing. And Matthew Wilkas (the actor) is super hot! I actually love this program. Good to hear that people are liking different ones from the list, and for different reasons.

I loved all the shorts in this program, but I have to say my favorite was Last Call. It was well done, and the message it sent in the end is one that I think most gay men in small communities can connect with. Gayby was quite cute, and had a lot of laughs, by far the funniest of the shorts, but sometimes depth can be more drawing than funny. :)

I also connected strongly with Curious Thing as I had a very similar relationship with a straight friend in college. (And yes, I chat with him on FB on occasion, and see pics of this wife and kids... etc.) Again, something I think most gay men (of our generation? Am I that old?) can connect with.

Great choices over all, and kudos to the programmer(s)!

I want to echo Woody's comments about Last Call. The concept of the "inbetween" (as portrayed by the bar/bartender) was very engaging. Wish I could spend some time in a bar like that!

From the ballots:
Curious Thing - I feel like I missed content by not knowing who was talking, especially at the beginning before I figured out it was the same characters. Excellent.
Waiting 4 Goliath - Good but predictable.
Gayby - Good. Were they ad libbing?

Michael's response:
Actually the audio portion of Curious Thing is from a bunch of interviews. There were many stories there. That's the clever part of the short.

I have heard Michael's outfits are slipping.

Michael's response:
Were they too loose? Haha. Okay so clearly you want to see more sequins and sparkly, shiny things. But my wardrobe was the most couture ever! =)

From the ballots:
Gently was by far the most interesting one for me. It kept me guessing what's going to happen next. And it was well done.

So, a middle-aged teacher and a much younger student fall in love. Makes sense?

Michael's response:
Professor Godoy is actually one of my favorite shorts. Its story is quite unique (and sweet) and hardly ever seen in films. You know, anything is possible.

Last Call is my top pick. Gayby and Go Go Reject are tied for second.

Alas, having a man is but a dream for me ...
