Program 40: The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister

Well that was a positively amazing Closing Night film and party! Loved that there were tons of energy from the audience, which I must say has been pretty much how the past 9 days have been. I think we have just outdone ourselves.

It was great to introduce a strong, feisty and interesting character in Miss Anne Lister to ImageOut.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film, however, the balcony audience was one of the rudest I have ever encountered. People talking and commenting throughout the film, as well as getting in and out of seats, requiring entire rows to stand and block views way too often made it difficult for me to catch some film dialog.

This was as high a quality closing nite film as I have ever seen. I agree about the balcony crowd being rude, always disapoining. A word about the party...taking in to account that this was last minute...I think it was one of my least fun closing night parties I hav attended. We could not get any where near the food table and the promised servers walking I only saw 2 and one of them had an empty tray. Having just one table only one side open to the food was a poor set up. The music was good the dancers were having lots of fun.

I enjoyed the party, but agree with some of the previous comments. It was a nice space to work in but the food and dessert setup were all wrong for the size of the crowd. A place that does this all the time should know how to set things up to handle the flow of people.
Still it was a fun party and a nice way to cap off a great festival week!

Michael and Deanna - here's a thought for next year's closing night...You two should pick out each other's wardrobe! Could be tied to the movie, or coordinated to each other's outfits.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, though honestly it felt like an over-done Masterpiece Theater segment.

The closing night venue had a few quirks that I hope get settled out next time. Between the narrow entry way, and the food being in the wrong spot, it was tough to move around freely. I did like the audio levels though, as in the past it seems there was a focus on volume.

Two things I really did miss this year: The silent auction and having a theme night.

In the past we've had theme nights, usually on the closing movie, where there was a suggested dress style. For example, wearing "something military" for All the Queens Men, or "wedding style dress" for a wedding themed movie. Only about 15% of attendees actually would dress, but it was fun for those that dressed, and for the casual onlooker.

I understand not everything can be the same year in and year out. But those two were kind of a highlight for me. And something I'd love to see again at some point, even if in a different form or place in the festival.

Excellent movie! You picked a great one for closing night. Honestly, I wish this movie would get national release before the end of 2010 and get nominated for Oscars. But I know I am being very ambitious, lol..

OK, about the closing party, It was good, but I wish they could have put the food somewhere else and I wish the "hot stuff" (food) could have been also put at a table somewhere instead of the ladies parading around with their trays. I feel I hardly got any of the hot stuff.

So, this year had a much better venue, but last year had better food.

And I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me why the party had to be move 10 days before the start of the festival. I know you said "due to circumstances beyond our control..." Well, WHAT WERE THEY?

:)

But I had a wonderful night. I love the party things.
And I loved meeting the director of "You should meet my son" and an actor from "Is it just me." :)

Please cut back on the amount of time spent pre-film talking about ImageOut -- some time on the film would be nice!

From the ballots:Well-crafter plot. Excellent lead actor. Even the intoxicated people behind me quieted down and were taken in by this film.

The film made me almost forget she was a lesbian. She reminded me of Susan B. Anthony. She lived her life bravely, fearlessly, and just like any good English gentleman. It was inspiring.

Wonderfully feminine - no chases, no duels, no explosions and topped the miners in the pit.

Michael's comment:
Years from now, people will wonder what the heck you were talking about! But just so people understand, the headlines around this time were dominated by the trapped Chilean miners.
