Program 41: Safe Space (Youth Shorts)

In many of the programs this year, I've mentioned how the films have been so timely in tackling some of our LGBT issues that have recently made the headlines. But I also think it's because these same issues have been persistent and ever present. I am proud to present a collection of short films about our youth who choose to create their own safe spaces, even to simply escape their realities sometimes.

I must admit that it's been quite a while since anything made me sob in theater - but the short film Boarding Pass did just that. If anyone there heard someone audibly sobbing in the back of the theater ... I apologize. :o) Amazing short. The rest were great as well - some better than others, but that's to be expected in a shorts program. Thanks ImageOut and keep up the great work.

I remember watching Boarding Pass early in the year and made a note to myself that it NEEDS to be included in the lineup. So glad it worked with the Youth Shorts program. While technically not an LGBT film, it still is relevant to our audiences.

All of the shorts in this one were really good. I loved the Queer Pet Adventures shorts, and how they were sprinkled in to lighten up the mood after some of the more serious ones.

I'm quite happy with all of the short film compilations this year. (There were 5!) And I'm quite happy that they were so well attended. :)

Oh my god I swear I almost cried during "Boarding Pass" When I heard it was done in memory of an actual girl I almost lost it. There's a reason I got on my bike last August and did that AIDS ride :)

Also, I enjoyed the "Queer pet adventures", yep those were good. And "Gay Baby", I got a kick out of that one. Excellent slapstick comedy there. Did anyone else recognize the store clerk--actor Tye Olson from "Watercolors" and "Tru Loved"? I think he's a great young actor.

Everything else was good if not excellent. And I love how this was an "international" youth program :)
