Day 4: ZOMBIE PROM (Youth Shorts)

Monday. Another day, another fresh start. This year's youth shorts program is a good mix of fun and message films. I'm glad that we could screen it at RIT Ingle Auditorium and potentially reach out to local students and a younger audience. I'm especially excited about the title short film, Zombie Prom - it's creative, entertaining, and has great production values!

Student filmmaker Rafael Lessa and cinematographer/composer Colin Elliott (The Yellow Tent) will also be on hand for a Q&A after the screening.

This program is a part of our Youth Program Series and is offered free to anyone younger than 21 years old.

NOTE: The short films included in this program are:
Dish
Recess
Lipstick
The Yellow Tent
Girl Talk
Raw Love (Amor Crudo)
Zombie Prom

I loved this series of shorts, and enjoyed each in the set. I loved Yellow Tent and Amor Crudo, since both parallel events in my own life, and I suspect the lives of many gay men. Major thanks for this light and touching short series, and for bringing ImageOut to a college venue again.

On the later topic, I think it's vital that ImageOut try to hold at least one night of movies on a local college campus each year. It helps the communities on campus raise awareness, and helps ImageOut by letting college folks know that Rochester is larger than the campus they're living on. (Being an RIT alumni, I can tell you it is not obvious how rich and diverse Rochester is, nor how vibrant it LBGT community is, based on what's visible from most of RIT's programming.) I encourage you to reach out to the college groups again next year again and try setup a similar venue next year.

I loved Zombie Prom. I think overall I really do like short films. I just need to avoid the "out there" ones!

Woody,

So glad you wrote about the importance of the college community. Starting last year, ImageOutreach worked very closely with various colleges. This year ImageOut tix were sold on 4 college campuses!

It was great to see a huge turnout by students for this shorts program. This, after all, was for them. Anyway, a few of the comments question the inclusion of ZOMBIE PROM as some people felt it wasn't really gay. Well, it's a campy film that I thought gay people would enjoy. But some of you were unforgiving and would rather rate a movie based on gay content rather than its own merits. By the way, I also included it based on feedback I got from the GAGV youth group -- that it's something they would want to see in an LGBT film festival. =)

Ballot comment:
I think I'd understand RECESS better if I watched it a few more times. RAW LOVE and DISH were pretty standard, but always good. Loved the production of LIPSTICK, GIRL TALK, and ZOMBIE PROM!

ZOMBIE PROM was so awesome!

Ballot comment:
Some films seemed a little short and vague. Others like THE YELLOW TENT and GIRL TALK were good representations of young gay love.

Ballot comment:
Regarding the Ingle Auditorium, the screen is too small and the sound system anemic.

ZOMBIE PROM was okay but seems like a stretch for a LGBT festival.
